Dog walkers are being urged to remain vigilant after police discovered meat stuffed with pills in a park.

Officers have warned of the sickening find online after probing the initially innocent food and discovering a haul of medication inside the abandoned meat. In their warning, the police said: "Our PCSOs found a piece of meat that had been stuffed with pills. Whilst we are unsure exactly what it was intended for, please be careful about what you let your dogs eat whilst out on a walk."

The police also posted online: "Please can all dog walkers be advised. We have had reports of food items being stuffed with pills and being left on the ground."

They added: "The Fishponds Police Team ask that you keep an eye on what your dog is eating and only let them eat what YOU have given them. Please report any suspicious activity to 101, or via our online reporting system."

The warning comes one year after a dog had to be placed on a drip and required medication after ingesting rat poison concealed in chunks of meat at a park.

Abbi, a West Highland White Terrier, fell ill after swallowing the revolting substance in Greenwell Park in Fife, Scotland on Wednesday, January 4. The westie's faeces soon turned black in colour, a common sign of poisoning, sparking alarm with her owner.

Thankfully, Abbi's owner acted quickly and immediately rushed her to the vets at the first sign that something was wrong.
